july 22nd, 2008 What projects would you like to see going on? Bending on ribs?, other steam bending projects?, canvassing?, any aspects of restoration?, etc. Contact us and we'll see what we can come up with. Well here we are again most of the season has gone by and i've done it again. We have been busy here at the shop. We also have been out a little too. Back in May, Rollin and I went on an Allagash trip. I was gone for a couple weeks on an Outward Bound Staff training. We still have managed to get something done in the shop. We have some students in the shop. We also have finished the big square sterns and some of the other boats you might have seen here from our last update. We've had a run on closed gunnel canoes this year, we're on our third one, with another after that. Bean has grown some, she is now almost eight months old. She went on the Allagash trip and most recently a quick overnight in canoe. She loves the water, as do most labs. She tolerates being in a canoe, which is lucky for me, and her. Next we'll have to get her on the trail with a doggy pack. Let's take a look at whats in the shop and some finished boats...... Peter
Here is one of the square sterns. Here is the other.
A Cheemaun almost finished. Here it is done with the name on it.
This 16' Old town goes with the Mahogany decked square stern seen above. Here's another Old Town before and after.............
Here is a 17' Morris canoe with closed gunnels. New rails decks and stem repair go a long way.................
It comes in like this..................and ends up like this and................ This Waltham Canoe, after a large repair will get an inboard motor.......
Jeremy and Josh work on a "50s" Selega canoe.
Here is a 91/2 foot pack canoe. The rails are such that they have to be steamed and bent right on the canoe. On the right the rails are finished. There will be a three inch burgundy border around the stem and under the rails. The body will be light green, and there will be a 1/2" stipe with interwoven scrolls at the ends dividing the colors. The burgundy has since been done and the bottom color is in process. The seats are ready. It will all be brought together soon.
Bean
Bean has been overseeing our work...............she works us hard........
